Paddington Bear has four 50p coins to commemorate his 60 th anniversary. ![]() The new coin had 7 sides and it has kept its shape, even after being made smaller in the 1990s. The new system comprised of just pennies and pounds and the new 50p was produced in 1969. Decimalisation meant that all the existing coins had to be replaced and this process began in 1968. ![]() In February 1971 the UK changed to a new system of currency. These delightful coins make a lovely set and children will really enjoy collecting them. Paddington Bear is an iconic children’s character and to celebrate the 60 th anniversary of his first story, the Royal Mint released two 50p coins in 2018. ![]()
